Rockin Robbie’s, great comment, great question. What if the at fault person does not have insurance? Well then you have a claim against your uninsured motorist coverage and that’s why it’s important that you know what your coverage is. If you have 25, 000 dollars in uninsured motorist coverage, then they’ll stand in the shoes of the at fault party and then you’re able to make a claim against your insurance.
They’ll pay you for your damages and then they will, you know, your insurance will go after the at fault party personally. If they believe they can get compensation for you, you’re paying a premium for that coverage. So why not use it? It’s something that I have to talk with clients a lot about because they don’t want to use their own insurance.
But if you’re not going to use it, then why do you have it? So if you’re hit by an uninsured or somebody who doesn’t have enough coverage, you would have a claim against your own uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage. So look at your deck page. It’s called a declarations page of your auto insurance to make sure you are satisfied that you have enough.
If the worst case scenario happens and you’re involved in a crash.
