Snow Removal Deadlines: What Homeowners Need to Know

Here we are back with our answer to the question, what counts as reasonable snow removal time for homeowners, this is probably the most lawyerly answer you’re gonna get. It’s D, it depends on the city rules. I have right here, the City of Milwaukee rules. For example, it says sidewalks must be clear of snow and ice 24 hours after snow had stopped falling, residents should not shovel, blow or plow snow back into the streets. Don’t forget to clear corners and fire hydrants if they’re next to your property, sidewalk. Snow enforcement requests can be made online, etcetera, etcetera. I think that this is really important.

This website, it’s from the Department of Public Works in Milwaukee. I thought one of the kind of nice things that they had on here is their goal to remove snow from streets is to have it removed within 18 to 24 hours after the snowfall. And the same thing applies to when you’re removing your snow from your sidewalks, they want it to be removed by 24 hours after the last snowfall.

So keep that in the back of your minds. Really the answer is, it depends. Go on your phone, go on your computer and google it and see what your municipality has as the rules for when you should be removing the snow from your sidewalks.
