Dram Shop Laws?

Dram shop laws. What are they? Does Wisconsin have them? In Wisconsin, a bar can be held responsible for the injuries caused if somebody’s drinking at their bar, and they leave and injure somebody else, only in very, very unique situations. And, the law is very narrow in this regard. You can’t go after the bar if an adult over the age of 21 years old was drinking and they were over served at a bar. That’s not going to happen in Wisconsin. If somebody is, 17 years old and has a fake ID that doesn’t look at all like themselves, or they don’t have any ID and they’re just served alcohol, that’s a different situation. And you can hold the bar responsible for serving underage drinkers.

There’s a number of different things that you have to look into but dram shop law in Wisconsin is a very unique law. It doesn’t happen very often but we’re entering into the summer months and if kids are out and about and they go into bars and they’re given alcohol and the the bartender doesn’t do what they’re supposed to do, that bar can be held responsible for all the damages that were caused by that underage drinker.
