I gotta think, you know, my first trial, looking back at my first trial, my recollection is, I think it was my birthday, I was born in June, I graduated law school in May, and then in June, I think my parents had come over right before that my boss Don gave me a file and said hey, we have something going on tomorrow I want you to look at this file and get ready and you can handle it tomorrow. And I’m like, okay because I’m a new attorney so I’m going to say yes to everything every opportunity, right?
So I grabbed it looked it over thought I would just be looking it over and you know sitting there next to him. During this hearing or this matter. It wasn’t just a hearing. It was in essence like a small claims appellate trial he’s like, okay Jon take it from here. And I was like, holy cow, I was not ready for that.
But, you know, looking back, it was again, it was a great experience. And now I’ve learned my lesson. Back then I learned my lesson to always be ready because you never know and over prepare. And I think that that made me a better lawyer. That’s one of the benefits of being a young lawyer is you have extra time, right?
I didn’t have any kids I had to take to swim or to basketball or whatever else. I could stay up late reading the file, wake up the next morning early and have no obligations and just concentrate on that file. And, it is certainly has created that kind of work ethic over time and I think that helped me out.
So that was really, my first experience, my first trial that I had.
