Throughout the Zoo Interchange Project area traffic signals have been updated to accommodate additional traffic due to freeway closures. Traffic signals in the Zoo Interchange Project are equipped to adjust signal timings at intersections based on real-time traffic demands. This helps to maximize traffic flow along local roads by coordinating with other traffic signals in the area. Freeway lane and ramp closures are expected to increase traffic volumes on local roads. Increased traffic often corresponds to increased traffic accidents, so extra caution and awareness are warranted. Pedestrians should follow the instruction below, due to increased vehicle traffic on local roads.
PUSH THE BUTTON
Since traffic signals in the Zoo Interchange Project area are designed to maximize the vehicular traffic flow they do not follow a standard traffic pattern and do not produce a walk sign for pedestrians unless the pedestrian button is pushed.
If you are a pedestrian at a traffic signal, keep these tips in mind:
- Only cross the street at designated crosswalks
- Push the pedestrian button when at a traffic signal
- Wait until the walk sign is present to cross the street
- Follow crossing guard’s instruction (when present)
I-41 SOUTH TO I-94 EAST SYSTEM RAMP TO CLOSE OCTOBER 1
As part of the Zoo Interchange Project, the I-41 South to I-94 East system ramp will be closed beginning October 1. This closure will be in place until late Spring 2017.
There will be increased traffic along Bluemound Road, Glenview Avenue, 84th Street, and other roadways near the alternate routes. Please utilize 92nd Street or 84th Street to Bluemound Road, or other signalized routes to ensure the fastest travel time in and out of your neighborhood. Plan ahead, allow for extra time and drive safely.
The project team appreciates your patience during this time of added traffic on routes near your neighborhood.
